Ensign Paula Angelos

Commander Mike Cornwell

Excused were:

Ensign David Phares - family business
Ensign Josh Andrews - work
Captain Jonathan McFarland - illness

  1. The crew sat down at 6:30 PM and Science Officer Givens began by asking some questions about the purpose and the interests of the members of the crew. She wanted to know if the crew was more into the genre of the television shows or if we all had a true interest in science related information. The general consensus was that we were all very interested in science. She then presented some information regarding the current space shuttle program, and everyone enjoyed a round of conversation about space exploration and science topics.

  2. Captain Walker continued the meeting after dinner was ordered at approximately 6:47 PM by officially welcoming everyone and talking somewhat about current Star Trek news and then went right into the agenda items for the meeting.

Old Business

  1. Captain Walker began a discussion about the upcoming Star Trek Convention and how near it is. The crew reviewed the general plans for the convention. Captain Walker explained about promoting our ship, but also the Battleborn and the IFT in general. The Captain described the dress code for anyone working the table as our normal uniform of the blue IFT T-shirt. The crew was admonished to do a good job for the club, but to “have fun” doing it.

  2. The table schedule was reviewed in light of recent changes made by Creation. Some adjustments were made and will be published on the website. Science Officer Givens has agreed to be somewhat of a “floater” and provide relief when needed to those working the table.

  3. The XO then brought the crew up to date on the community service project. XO Cornwell informed the crew that the agreement had been signed and explained where the section of highway is located that the Vegas will be cleaning. It was thought that probably sometime late in September will be the first time we have a community away mission (CAM) to clean the highway. XO Cornwell also said that once the sign is put up, that the crew will be notified.

  4. Captain Walker then updated the crew on the plans for the Australian write, Mr. Fuller. Mr. Fuller would like to interview members of the crew but would like to maintain an informal schedule and will get with the crew during the convention for the interviews. Captain Walker informed the crew that he and XO Cornwell would be picking up Mr. Fuller at McCarron International Airport on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 and taking him to his hotel. The Captain also told the crew that we would be getting copies of the magazines where our interviews will be published.

  5. Captain Walker then brought up the MDA Telethon coming up during the Labor Day weekend. He asked for volunteers to man the phones on behalf of the ship. Unfortunately, most of the crew will be at stations during that time and probably only the CO and XO will be available. We are hopeful that it will work out for others to join as well.

Dinner came sometime during the first part of the meeting and everyone enjoyed a fine dinner from Quark’s. After dinner was finished, the crew continued with the business portion of the meeting.

New Business

  1. Captain Walker presented his Star Trek Update which included several items of interest. Among those were:
       a. Sci-Fi channel has licensed the Star Trek: Enterprise series and will begin airing them soon.
       b. TVLand has acquired license to play the original series and will begin running those in November
       c. The new Star Trek Magazine will begin publication in August and be published every two months
       d. A bit of movie news saying that the next movie will be about Kirk’s first command mission of the
Enterprise and not his and Spock’s time at the academy as had been circulated previously
       e. A new Japanese version of a Star Trek comic book is to be published soon
       f. A reminder that November 21, 2006 is the release date for the animated series on DVD and that the cost
has been increased from $35 to approximately $60

  2. The crew then began a discussion of having a movie night to play one of the Star Trek movies. Science Officer Givens volunteered her home for the night and Security Chief Naig volunteered his copy of Star Trek: The Voyage Home as the movie. The date was set at Sept. 13, 2006. More information and detailed directions will be posted on the Yahoo Group.

  3. Chief Operations Officer Brown then presented the ship with a large banner. The banner included a picture of the Intrepid class USS Las Vegas, a copy of the IFT Logo and the name and registry number of the ship. Everyone was taken aback by the high quality and professionalism of the banner. Even Captain Walker was speechless. COO Brown received the thanks and appreciation from the entire crew for such a fine contribution.

  4. Awards were then presented to Security Chief Naig who was promoted to Lieutenant 3rd Class after passing his Academy course and presented with is certificate of promotion. Science Officer Givens was also presented with a membership certificate. Digital images were recorded and will be published on the website.

  5. After the meeting was basically concluded, the entire group walked over to the convention side of the Hilton and reviewed how the tables and convention area would be set up and made plans for the coming convention.

The next Monthly Crew Meeting of the USS Las Vegas will be held on September 20, 2006 at 6:30 PM at Quark's Bar & Restaurant. This is a return to the normal schedule of the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:30 PM.
