Old Business:

  1. The meeting began at 6:30 PM with a welcoming statement from Captain Paul Walker. Capt. Walker was suffering from a bad case of laryngitis and the opening statement was brief, but included an update on IFT classes available to crew and staff officers. Capt. Walker continues to press all crew members to take the available classes and apply for the promotions they facilitate. He asked that all staff members complete the three basic classes for promotion by years end.

  2. A discussion of the IFT conference that will be held in Las Vegas, 10.21.06 and 10.22.06 was next. Capt. Walker reminded all that 7.31.06 was the last date to pay the fees associated with the conference and be eligible for the discount. After 7.31.06 the fees go up $10 per person for attendance to $55. A reminder, the conference meetings will be at the Tuscany Casino & Hotel. Please check the web site for regular updates on this conference.

  3. The USS Excalibur project has run into some difficulty with their lease and production schedules and the actual production of sets has temporarily slowed down awaiting resolution of this problem. The project continues to move ahead but at a slower pace than originally hoped for. This is a non profit organization and all are encouraged to support it in any way possible.

  4. Updating the 40th anniversary of Star Trek National Convention which will be held in Las Vegas beginning on 08.17.06 XO Cornwell informed us that Scott Bakula would be in attendance and available for photo ops at the convention. The schedule for working our table at the convention was assembled and XO Cornwell has the information. The schedule will also be posted on the web site. Final payment of table costs was made to XO Cornwell who had previous paid the bill and was being reimbursed for his out of pocket expense. Capt. Walker informed all that the advertising card idea went well and all involved were satisfied with the results.

  5. As was discussed in the May meeting minutes, Capt. Walker was once again in touch with the author from Australia. The gentleman provided copies of Star Trek magazine as it appears in the UK and also a copy of another movie magazine he contributes to. All in attendance agreed that we would provide time at the convention to visit with this man about our own individual Star Trek quest.

  6. It was reported that the “Good day to Dine” casual gathering in July was both a success and enjoyable for all that attended.

  7. Our application for the Adopt-a-highway program was accepted but our choice of locations for this activity was not. The State feels that the section of I95 we chose is too busy and traffic much too fast for us to work safely there. A new location is under consideration. XO Cornwell is working out the details.

  8. Capt. Walker provided an overview of new events for Star Trek. Another in the TV show collections is being released 8.06.06 and features “The Klingons“ A collection of the animated Star Trek series which aired in 1973-74 featuring 22 episodes and a great deal of new information will be released on 11.21.06 just in time for the holiday shopping frenzies.

  9. Capt Walker updated the staff on the MDA telethon for Labor Day weekend. The South Coast Hotel & Casino is set to host this event, the telephones for local participants will be at the Hilton Convention Center. Those interested may volunteer to host the phones and accept pledges during the telethon. Please contact Capt. Walker for additional information if you are interested.

New Business

  1. Jonathan McFarland has become the Chief Medical Officer. Tom Scott resigned the post due to other commitments. Please offer congratulations to Jonathan when you see him.

  2. CMO McFarland requested the opportunity to address attending staff and provided us with an outstanding history of the previous ships bearing the “Las Vegas” name.

  3. Ensign Frank Brown was promoted to Lieutenant 3rd class due to his completion and passing of the three required IFT courses. Capt. Walker presented Lt. Brown with a certificate to mark the occasion. See the digital record page for the image.

PLEASE NOTE: The next scheduled meeting will be moved up a week to August 9, 2006. This is due to the fact that Quark's will not be available the following week due to the Star Trek Convention. By moving the meeting up a week, we can and will have the meeting at Quark's as usual and at the usual time of 6:30 PM. The September meeting will return to the normal date of the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Meeting adjourned.
