Old Business:
-
IFT news: Frank Brown has
completed two of the three courses available for command training. Cost is
$11.00 and Captain Walker encouraged all to participate in the program.
-
Community involvement: Captain
Walker upgraded information about community service involving clean up
along the highways. He was notified that a two mile area on the same side
of road was available on either the Lee Canyon Road or the Kyle Canyon
Road, both lead to Mt. Charleston. A requirement of four clean ups a year
was needed to keep our sign posted along the road. It was suggested that
it be done in teams of two to four people at a time. The bags and pick up
will be done by public works. Email Mike Cornwell if and when interested.
Vote taken on the above and was passed.
-
Star Trek 40th Anniversary
Convention: IFT booth. USS Battleborn has withdrawn from sponsoring a
booth at the convention. IFT has notified Mike Cornwell that they will pay
for half the fee of $300. It will be USS Las Vegas responsibility to pay
the remaining $150.00. Captain Walker informed the crew that Mike has paid
for the booth on his credit card and it would be necessary for us to
reimburse him for this cost. Captain Walker then distributed
postcard size advertisements given by Creation Entertainment concerning
the August convention. Every one was encouraged to post them in convenient
places. CE will give two free passes to the convention to our unit.
August's meeting is one day before the convention. Captain Walker
suggested an additional meeting be held piror to that date. Convention new
event: A planned conference will be held one day before convention in
which experts on the franchise will give an update on the status of Star
Trek such as the up coming movie.
'Vic Fontaine' concert will be $30.00, see web site for other events and
costs.
-
IFT conference update: Tickets
for the conference are selling at $35 before July 31, $55 after. This is
mandatory for the crew. Tuscany Hotel is still the location site. IFT
T-shirts arrived, given out to paid members.
-
Star Trek update, Captain
Walker: Special collections are out, such as the 'Q' collection of twelve
episodes and a 'Klingon' collection is due in August. Star Trek movie #11,
New cast members for the roles of Shatner and Nimoy were announced. A few
grunts and groans were heard. New Star Trek 'on line' games are available.
New Business:
-
Superman movie will be shown in
regular format. It will be a mission away to view film as a matinee at the
Cannery theater on July 5 or the 12.
-
It was felt that the movie and the
regular dinner meeting of July 19 at Quark's would be enough for the month
of July. Bowling was suggested for August as an away mission.
Awards:
Jonathan McFarland membership from New York was transferred to the USS Las
Vegas with the rank of Captain. Suggestions he be made Chief Financial
Officer were tabled until the next meeting.
Tom Scott received membership from IFT.
Barbara Givens was nominated as Chief Science Officer and the motion was
passed.
Addendum:
Further recommendations for community service included 'Make a Wish'
Foundation, car washes and educational material for teachers that are Star
Trek fans. The latter was reported on by Barbara Givens .She is a member
of the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff and has connections with the
Lawrence Laboratory at Berkley. Material is pending.
Captain Walker suggest that in place of our regular monthly dinners that a
holiday party for December be planned.
The next scheduled meeting is on
July 19, 2006 at 6:30 PM at Quark’s.
Meeting adjourned.
