Dinner was ordered and the crew and guests enjoyed some casual time until 7:00 PM when the meeting started.

  1. Captain Walker began by welcoming the crew and guests to our fourth regular meeting of the USS Las Vegas. Captain Walker noted that two of the crew were missing. Paula Angelos was on sick leave due to a back problem and David Phares was visiting in Arkansas and could not attend. Captain Walker also informed the crew of a new member that has joined our ship, but was unable to attend this meeting due to a previous engagement. Tom Scott will be our new Chief Medical Officer and should be at our next meeting.

  1. Captain Walker then turned the meeting to the upcoming IFT Conference being held here in Las Vegas in October 2006. Paul asked Martha Ann about whether the Tuscany had been secured as the location for the IFT Conference. Martha Ann responded in the affirmative, saying it had been taken care of this week.

  1. Captain Jesse Caparrella then gave a short narrative of the duties of the security department at the conference. He gave some specifics about the badges that each member will be issued and that they will need to check those in and our each day of the conference. He also spoke of the doors being secured during the conference. There was also conversation about having banners of each of the represented ships hanging on the walls of the room and of the seating arrangements. Two monitors will be set up and playing some of the movies or other Star Trek shows. Jesse also offered to build a model of the USS Las Vegas with a kit he already has. He offered on the condition that he has the time and Captain Walker accepted his kind offer on behalf of the ship and crew. Martha Ann also mentioned that the dress code for the conference would be fairly casual due to some working groups being setup.

  1. Talk then turned to some possible locations for the dinner and for an after-dinner party to be held on the Saturday night of the IFT Conference. The following suggestions were made:

                        Benihana’s
Toby Keith’s, “I Love this bar."
                        Stratosphere
Studio 54 at the MGM Grand

Mike Cornwell was assigned to get information about the Stratosphere as this was generally held to be the best place by the group.

  1. The crew of the USS Las Vegas then began exploring various opportunities for civic involvement including the AIDS walk, the Susan G Cole Walk and various other potential projects. The crew will begin thinking along these lines and will make plans soon to become involved in some civic projects.

  1. During this conversation, Jesse made the offer that we could join their ship in visiting the children at a local hospital.

  1. The crew also considered the ideal of the adopt-a-highway program. It was tabled and will be discussed again at the next meeting.

  1. The possibility of having a Federation Day Bar-b-que was also discussed by our Chief Morale Officer, Joshua Andrews. Various locations were suggested for the event and additional plans are being made. It isn’t an official event quite yet, but should be soon.

  1. Several other group activities were considered including movie night, and going out to eat. Joshua had a good catch phrase, “Today is a good day to dine.” Everyone liked the phrase and it was noted that most people in the crew are off work on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

  1. We also had two visitors from Germany visit with our group. XO, Mike Cornwell met them before the dinner in the shops on the Promenade and invited them to join us later on. Anja and Martin seemed to enjoy meeting other Star Trek fans and visited for quite some time with the group.

  1. The next meeting of the USS Las Vegas is on May 17, 2006 at 6:30 PM at Quark’s.
