USS Las Vegas

Monthly Crew Meeting
March 15, 2006

Minutes Recorded by Chief Communications Officer David Phares (Click here for images)

  1. Meeting began with welcoming statement from Captain Paul Walker.  Capt. Walker cited the large number of new activities on the agenda and stressed the importance of our participation in those events.  He also explained the minor delay in response from IFT headquarters as a result of the corporate office being relocated.  The logistics of that move generated a slight backlog in some paperwork, and delays in answering questions.

  2. A discussion of the IFT conference that will be held in Las Vegas, 10.21.06 and 10.22.06 was next.  Capt. Walker and XO Cornwell have been checking with the local hotels for a meeting place and accommodations for attendees to the conference.  At this time the Tuscany hotel appears to be a likely location.  They have meeting facilities that will accommodate the anticipated attendance (30-50) and excellent rooms and service.  Please check the web site for regular updates on this conference.

  3. An update on the Away Mission with the USS Battleborn, our sister ship stationed in Henderson.  This mission is scheduled for 03.25.06. and begins at 18:30 with dinner in Quarks.  This mission will include a visit to the Star Trek exhibit at the Hilton convention center and a back stage tour of the facilities and Star Trek Experience.  Estimate cost for this mission is $70 if tickets are obtained at the Hilton, but it was noted that Tix4Tonight on the strip offered these tickets for approximately $45.  It is recommended that tickets be acquired at that location.

  4. The 40th anniversary of Star Trek National Convention will be held in Las Vegas beginning on 08.17.06.  There is an opportunity to become a volunteer at this convention.  If you are interested please contact XO Cornwell for additional information.

  5. Capt. Walker has been contacted by a national magazine in Australia.  They are sending a representative to the National Convention in August and are interested in interviewing members of the two starships stationed here.  They have indicated that they are interested in how being involved in this experience affects you.  Why are we involved, that type of thing.  They are also interested in interviewing female members about their role in the experience.  Crew members interviewed will have their photos in the magazine and everyone will receive a copy.  If you are interested please contact Capt Walker before 07.01.06.

  6. XO Cornwell introduced the USS Excalibur project to the staff.  This is non profit organization seeking volunteers to work on a production set for a series to be based in the time period of the original Star Trek.  They are looking for people to work on sets, costumes, and general help in this project.  There is a link to this project on the web site if you want additional information.

  7. It was suggested that senior staff members might do a monthly or bi-monthly column on topics of interest in their particular field.  These columns would be posted on the web site for crew access.  Additional discussion to be held on this topic.

  8. Capt, Walker provided an overview of new events for Star Trek.  Basically it is a dim outlook on “new adventures”.  There are no plans for a live action TV series and there has been a delay in the projected next feature film.  The bright spot is that Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing a couple of  DVD sets,  “The Borg Set” featuring the best episodes in all series about the Borg and in April a “Time Travel Set” featuring the best episodes of all the series on time travel.  It also appears that the Star Trek Communicator magazine will reappear and that there will be a series of 40th Anniversary action figures made available on a limited basis though Amazon.com

  9. Capt Walker also requested staff members consider volunteering to work the MD Telethon at the Las Vegas Hilton this up coming labor day weekend in September.

  10. IFT tee shirts are available for $11, they are blue with IFT logo o the upper left hand side.

  11. The last item on the agenda was the introduction of new staff members.  The new Security Officer is Silas Naig, and the new Communications Officer is David Phares.  Certificates of Membership were issued to all in staff members in attendance by Capt Walker with XO Cornwell taking photos of the presentation. The ceremony was witnessed by a representative of the Andorian council.

The next scheduled meeting is on April 19, 2006 @ 6:30 PM at Quark’s.

Meeting adjourned.
